To which technical services provider turn to when a television network needs help for major events ?
Expecting more than the usual customer-supplier relationship, France Télévisions is looking for true partners to assist the network with the coverage of major international sporting events.
The preparation required for an event of the magnitude of the Olympic Games starts a long time before in order to design the best technical system, to study the feasability of innovative and creative solutions imagined by France Télévisions and to anticipate possible pitfalls. Indeed, for each new edition of the games, France TV makes it an issue of honour to always innovate by deploying new video solutions.
Furthermore, it is very important to France TV that they can count upon reliable teams with solid technical knowledge, capable to adapt over long periods of time to any types of conditions and unforeseen technical glitches. France Télévision's goal is to bring its viewers high quality, immersive coverage and to approach as close as possible the athletes to truely experience the competition as if they were there.
ADVICE AND GUIDANCE
Since 16 years, France Télévisions has renewed again its trust in VIDELIO - Events for major international sporting events. Over the years, the VIDELIO - Events teams have won many technical challenges to offer solutions to France TV's inventive concepts.
For the Sotchi Olympic Games, the teams were contacted a long time beforehand to design an audiovisual technical infrastructure to be deployed both in Paris and in Sotchi.
In Sotchi, the VIDELIO - Events teams partnered with those from France Télévisions, notably with the Live Production team to whom equipment was supplied for the central technical room as well as all the cameras required for covering the mixed areas.
Lastly, the studio set of France Télévisions for the first time used a video mapping solution and all the display screens used in the studio decoration were also supplied by VIDELIO - Events. Indeed, when night time came, the glass windows behind the studio set would go entirely dark and become visually uninteresting. To remedy this, the VIDELIO - Events teams created a 3D model of a mountain which received a 3D video mapping overlay thanks to 2x 10.000 Lumen silent projectors to avoid fan noise interfering with the live audio. A MODULO and Spyder system were also used for the control of the signals.
The video mapping overlay on the mountain was 5 meters wide at the base, the studio set was planned for 7 cameras with another camera on tracks with a FURIO system. The entire setup was remote-controlled by 4 remote operators
France Télévisions could rely on teams totally complementary to their own, capable of facing whatever operational glitches and with the experience to implement instant technical workarounds to solve the problem.
Thanks to VIDELIO - Events's design bureau, the inventive concept of a television studio enhanced with video mapping was successfully set up and this was truely a "first" for France Télévisions.
To conclude this chapter, France TV benefitted by high quality cameras and AVID post-production systems, courtesy of VIDELIO - Events's large inventory of rental equipment.
